NFL Week 4 Fantasy Football Sleepers and Waiver Wire Steals; Glen Coffee, Correll Buckhalter and More!

29 September 2009 5 Comments

For those of you who followed PFI last week and their Week 3 Fantasy Football Sleepers and Waiver Wire Steals, you capitalized on a touchdown from Johnny Knox, an explosive game from Tashard Choice, and one of Jason Campbell’s biggest fantasy outputs of his career.  My fantasy owners who wrote in were guided in starting Kevin Kolb and up to this point bust Santana Moss.  Both had great fantasy weeks.  Enough tooting my own horn, onto this weeks closet fantasy studs.

1.  Glen Coffee-RB- S.F. 49ers.  With the loss of Frank Gore for three weeks, Glen Coffee will reap the benefits of Gore’s absence in the way of eating up his carries.  One of Gore’s weeks out will be absorbed by the 49ers bye week, but the other two are favorable match ups for Coffee.  First Coffee will face the St. Louis Rams, followed by the Atlanta Falcons.  Both are prone to give up yards on the ground in bundles.  The 49ers offensive scheme will not change with Gore out, so if Glen Coffee is there and you need a running back, he’s the man.

2.  Ahmad Bradshaw-RB-New York Giants.  Consider Bradshaw this year’s Derrick Ward.  Bradshaw should have been drafted in every deep league, but if available, consider taking Bradshaw.  He has the speed and big play ability that Brandon Jacobs does not.  He draws a third of the offensive carries, and is always one broken tackle away from a huge touchdown.  Bradshaw is a great flex option or #2RB as the Giants take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

3.  Correll Buckhalter-RB-Denver Broncos.  Buckhalter is not getting as many carries as Knowshon Moreno, but he is producing the same amount of fantasy points.  Buckhalter will produce but is facing a tough three game stretch heading into a bye.  The Broncos will face Dallas, New England and San Diego, in that order.  If you are in a running back jam and can not get #1 or #2, or need a player who will produce all year long, look to Correll.

4.  Pierre Garcon-WR-Indianapolis Colts.  Garcon has back to back touchdown games in Anthony Gonzalez’s absence.  Indi’s opponent is Seattle this week, and I can see Garcon making it a trifecta!

I would like to put Chad Henne in this list, or Josh Johnson, but I do have concerns about the systems that both of them are currently in.  If you are short at the QB position, I am all for picking them up, just avoid starting them until you see what they bring to the table.  I do see Johnson having more upside than Henne due to the comparisons of their respective offenses, or lack there of.

As always, ask and you shall receive, post your questions to this article and I will respond.  Submit your week 5 questions via email by Tuesday afternoon and have your questions answered as ProFootballinsight goes “Head to Head” with MidwestSportsFans in their Fantasy Podcast release beginning next week.

    As for your current starters;

    I like Schaub vs. Oakland
Jacobs is a good play vs K.C.
    So is Forte vs. Detroit
Coffee will not be Frank Gore, but should give you good numbers
I always like Reggie Wayne when Manning is on the field
Steve Smith has a great match up against K.C., I don’t like starting two players for the same squad though.
If your TE is Dallas Clark, he is a great start, again, I am not a fan of dual players, except for the 2007 Patriots Offense!
49ers should get their share of turnovers with Kyle Boller playing QB. He will also produce more points than Bulger would have.
Graham versus Cleveland is a no brainer. I just hope for your sake that the Bengals are not only scoring touchdowns.

I would keep Barber on the bench until he is at least 90%.
I like Ryan Grant, but not his match up against the Vikings.
Wells must get out of the dog house before he has any value.
Hester is the 3rd best receiver on his team.
As for Ginn, you must wait until we see what Chad Henne can do as the starter.
    Hasselbeck injured!

I am curious, what is your opponents starting line up. I would not make any changes to your team based on what you have as your options. Even if I knew who was available in your league, it would be hard to find players that could perform better than what is currently in your starting line up. I would pick up Josh Johnson, just in case he turns into something, no point in carrying an open slot, unless your league charges for transactions.

Thanks for writing in, I look forward to your response!
