NFL Fantasy Football Week 8 Start Em or Sit Em: Cutler, Rivers, Sanchez, Jacobs, Austin
Week 7 is in the books with an amazing milestone, Peyton Manning did NOT pass for 300 yards. Week 7 was also a week of blowouts. Six NFL teams lost this weekend by 28 points or more, and one of those teams was the Bears… To the hands of the Bengals! Unbelievable. Most of this we all saw coming (Week 7 Start Em or Sit Em), the Bears game was a shocker. Let’s break down NFL Week 8.
Week 8 is a Bye week for the Bengals, Chiefs, Patriots, Steelers, Buccaneers and Redskins.
As a side note; My ban on starting any Bills, Browns or Raiders offensive players has not been lifted! This rule is still in effect.
Quarterbacks
Start Em
Matt Schaub-Texans- Schaub will be facing the Bills, who allowed Jake Delhomme a 300 plus yard game last week.

Jay Cutler-Bears- The Bears coming off of a horrible game against the Bengals should mean sit em, right? Not when you draw the Cleveland Browns this week, at home!
Philip Rivers-Chargers- Rivers had a good game against the Chiefs, and play Oakland this week, nuff said.
Sit Em
Matt Hasselbeck-Seahawks- Matt will be facing a Cowboys Defense which held Matt Ryan t0 9 fantasy points last week. That compiled with Hasselbeck’s last appearance of 111 yards with 2 turnovers versus the Cardinals makes me want to avoid Hasselbeck.
Mark Sanchez-Jets- The Jets are playing the Dolphins, who gave a win away last week to the Saints. Sanchez did not look great against Oakland, and I see the Jets relying on the running game again this week.
Jake Delhomme-Panthers- Yes, Jake went over 300 yards last week. This week he faces the Cardinals, who gave Eli Manning all he could handle on Sunday, as they picked off Manning 3 times and held him to under 250 yards passing and 1 touchdown. The only factor here that could change is the health of the Cardinals secondary.
Running Backs
Start Em
Steven Jackson-Rams- I know Jackson owners have been dying to hear this. Jackson just had a 134 yard game, and will play the Lions this week. There are not too many weeks where you will see Steven Jackson above the sit em print, but this week is one of those weeks.
Brandon Jacobs-Giants- Jacobs had a good game against the Cardinals, and in my opinion was not used nearly enough. Jacobs had a couple big gains, and looked good attacking the holes. I look for the Giants to go to Jacobs more this week against the Eagles.
Matt Forte-Bears- See Jay Cutler!
Sit Em
Ryan Grant-Packers- I know that Grant just had 143 rushing yards last week. That was against the Browns. The Minnesota Vikings this week will not be as generous on the yardage pass.
Julius Jones-Seahawks- Jones has had a horrible last three games, with a total of 64 yards rushing over that period. The Cowboys will not help his stock rise this week.
Joseph Addai-Colts- Addai does not have over 64 yards rushing in a game this year. The 49ers D will not be as forgiving at the Rams, who gave Addai his season high in yardage.
Wide Receivers
Start Em
Miles Austin-Cowboys- Wow! 2 games, 421 yards and 4 touchdowns. Seattle will pay the deserved attention to Austin that his last two games commanded, but Austin will get the ball with all of the other weapons around him.
Vincent Jackson-Chargers- Jackson has went for double digit fantasy points in every game but one this season. Coming off a monster game against the Chiefs, I like his chances against the Raiders.
Sidney Rice-Vikings- Rice has 312 yards in his last two games, which were against the Steelers and Ravens. Farve will need Rice’s ability to beat his old team for a second time this year.
Sit Em
Roy Williams-Cowboys- It appears that Williams has been replaced and fallen farther down the totem pole for Tony Romo. Romo’s favorite target has been and will always be Jason Witten. Miles Austin has stolen the #2 spot for Romo, and Patrick Crayton may be #3. With 3 good to great running backs in Dallas, there are not enough balls to go around!
Any Carolina Panthers Receivers- Their top receiver on the season, Steve Smith, has a fantasy ranking of 54, with only 26 total points on the season (ESPN Scoring). As long as Jake Delhomme is the QB, sit his WR’s.
Any Tennessee Titans Receivers- See above, change Steve Smith to Nate Washington and change Jake Delhomme to Kerry Collins.
Tight Ends
Start Em
Vernon Davis-49ers- Davis exploded for 2 TD’s last week, and has been huge all season. His numbers were incredible last week, as the insertion of Alex Smith at the Quarterback position made Davis the preferred target. If Alex is named the new starter, Davis’s stock elevates even more.
Greg Olsen-Bears- Olsen should have a great game versus Cleveland this week. As Jay Cutler’s most capable receiver, Cutler and Co. will continue to embarrass the spiraling Cleveland Franchise.
Sit Em
Brent Celek-Eagles- Celek is still riding his inflated fantasy numbers from when Kolb was his QB. I don’t think that McNabb even knows that he is allowed to throw to his tight ends, because he does not. If you have a starting TE on any team that consistently uses them, start them over Celek.
John Carlson-Seahawks- I loved Carlson last year, and looked for great things from him this year. Carlson had 2 TD’s in week 1, and now at week 8 still only has 2 TD’s on the season. Need I say more? Until Carlson finds the end zone again, seek other help.
Defense
Start Em- Dallas, Chicago, San Diego, Arizona, Baltimore, Denver
Sit Em- Carolina, Oakland, 49ers, Giants, Eagles, Cleveland, Seattle, Titans and Buffalo
