NFL Week 7 Fantasy Football Sleepers and Waiver Wire Steals

20 October 2009 2 Comments

Coming off of a great Week 6 for ProFootballinsight’s sleepers and waiver wire steals, we have some great advise for you in this Week 7 to help you fill your Bye, injured or under performing players.

A brief recap of last week.  PFI said that Leon Washington, Donnie Avery, Jermichael Finley and Sammy Morris would have good fantasy sleeper weeks.  Washington had 144 total yards.  Avery had a touchdown, but left the game with an injury.  Finley had 54 yards and Morris left the game with an injury.  Based on Maroney’s performance, Morris would have had a field day had he not left the game.   Sorry, PFI cannot predict injuries.

This week, ProFootballinsight looks for these players to make a positive impact in your roster;

Jacoby Jones-WR-Houston Texans.  Jones has not had huge yardage numbers this year, but he does have touchdowns in three games.  Jacoby has been completely hit or miss, but if your hurting, Jones is still a better start than any WR in a Cleveland or Oakland jersey.

Cadillac Williams-RB-Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  On a team with 4 quality running backs, Williams has been stealing carries, yardage and touchdowns.  His match up this week is difficult as they are playing the Patriots, but Williams numbers can’t be ignored.  4 out of 6 weeks, Williams has had double digit carries and has two rushing touchdowns on the season, which is two more than Larry Johnson or Steven Jackson.  If your hurting at RB, Williams is an option in deep leagues.

Justin Fargas-RB-Oakland Raiders.  Fargas is coming off of a 23 carry, 87 yard performance.  Fargas is available in almost every fantasy league, and with McFadden’s injury, Fargas looks to gobble up the Raiders carries.

Andre Caldwell-WR-Cincinnati Bengals.  Caldwell has filled the role that I thought Chris Henry would have in a strangle hold.  Caldwell is coming off of a 6 catch, 57 yard performance, and has 3 six catch performances on the year with 2 TD’s.  Caldwell has at least two catches in every game this year, and is a great deep league WR filler.

This week I received a question from loyal reader Cereno who sent the following;

Hey Fraschetti…thanks for the week 6 advice!

week 6 was going great until Hasselbeck and Braylon Edwards pulled a disappearing act on me!!!

week 7:
so many players have bye this week so i’m looking for suggestions.

Matt Schaub
matt Hasslebeck (bye)……..Trent Edwards (GOD HELP ME!!!)
Sims-Walker (bye)…………Johnny Knox
Brandon Marshall (bye)…….Braylon Edwards
Marquis Colsten
Jones-Drew (bye)………….Marion Barber
Clinton Portis
Chris Cooley
w/r/t (Heath Miller…or pick up Sidney Rice or Lance Moore)

BENCH
Marion Barber
Jerome Harrison (should i drop for Sidney Rice or Lance Moore)?
Heath Miller
Derrick Mason (going to drop since bye week is same as my starters)
Johnny Knox

Hope this is not too confusing…Thanks again!

Cereno, thank you for your question.  First, look at what QB’s are available.  There has to be one out there that will outperform Trent Edwards.  I do like Marion Barber this week as well as Marques Colston.  Braylon Edwards will be completely hit or miss.  With that said, if the Jets are going to have success through the air, Edwards will have to be involved and is a great red zone target.  Clinton Portis scares me every week and Cooley versus Miller is a toss up.  Miller could have a bigger game, but Cooley over time has been much more consistent.  I am interested to see how the Redskins play calling will change this week with Jim Zorn being stripped of his play calling duties.  The Minnesota Defense will give Pittsburgh all they can handle and may be forced to find Miller.  I like Lance Moore, and would start both he and Colston last year when the Saints could not run the ball.  Now that they can run or pass, I would hate for you to start both of them and the Saints decide Drew Brees is better served handing the ball off rather than lighting it up!  I do not recommend dropping Jerome Harrision just yet, because if Jamal Lewis goes down with another injury, Harrison has value and will be used against you.  I hope this helps.

If your looking for who to start or sit, check out PFI’s Start Em or Sit Em for Week 7!
