It is hard to argue the success of Chris Johnson last year, but is Adrian Peterson a safer #1 Pick?

Q and A’s
Q-Rich Glazier said: Great site. At what point in the first round would you consider a QB or a WR?
A- In the first round in conventional scoring leagues, I take the first five Running Backs, then the top three Quarterbacks, and would bounce back and forth between quality QB’s and RB’s for the remainder of the first round. The only Wide Receiver that even rates first round consideration is Andre Johnson, and that is in a 12 or 14 team league draft!
A- Not Michael Vick because at this point he is not a starter. Not Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen will pressure him from the back up role.
If you can keep two, that cut was easy. To get down to one is more difficult!
Vince Young has more talent in the backfield and a better upside. His off-season issues are what scares me. All Young has to do is flick is wrist, and off of a 5 yard screen pass, Chris Johnson can give him 60 yards passing and a TD. Just look at last year.
Alex Smith has fantasy value as well this year. Head Coach Mike Singletary has expressed his faith in Smith as his starter. Smith also has a solid running game and a potential game breaker in Michael Crabtree.
There are numerous QB’s I would rather see you land, but out of this group, Young is your man.
A- Hi Calfan, I understand and feel your pain. I have no faith in Michael Turner this year, just as I did not last year. In a PPR league, I love LeSean McCoy, but he is not worth a first round pick this year, but will be next year. Take him in the second on your ladder back if he is there after you draft Andre Johnson. In a PPR, wide receivers value is greater than that of quarterbacks. In a non-PPR league, you would be looking at Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees or Peyton Manning at this point. I do not feel this spot is too early for a WR, but I am concerned about A.J. playing a full season again.
If you are not comfortable with Johnson at this point, Steven Jackson looks good in this spot as well. With a rookie starting QB, Jackson will be a workhorse yet again. He had a great year last year with no offensive support. He will be Bradford’s check down receiver out of the backfield. Even if he grabs five dump passes for three yards, he gave you five points in your PPR league. Best of luck and I hope this helps.
A- Aaron, I am going to assume that your league is a non-PPR league. If that is the case, I keep Chris Johnson and Peyton Manning. The Colts and Titans offense runs through these two individuals. The 49ers are looking to go into a more diverse direction.

Thanks for the question, see above.
Who do you think is the most overhyped player going into the draft?
What do you think about T.O. going to the Bengals? What Bengals do you like?

I have 10th pick in PPR league, if Rogers is available should i take him or go WR,WR or WR,RB?
Thanks for the question Mike, see above.
If you had a decison between 4Qbs, 1. (SF)Alex Smith, 2. (CAR) Matt Moore, 3.(PHI)Michael Vick and 4. (Ten) Vince Young. Which ones would you cut and why? Thank you.
Smith,
Not Michael Vick because at this point he is not a starter. Not Matt Moore, Jimmy Clausen will pressure him from the back up role.

Hi – i’m picking 6th in a 10 team ppr league – assuming the first 5 picks are c johnson, ad, ray rice, mjd, and gore who should i take @ 6? i’m battling between turner, who has down side in a ppr league but could be back to 08 form….mendenhall maybe? could be a work horse this year….not sure i want to jump on a receiver yet @ 6 – thanks for your help
Calfan, check above in the article. Thanks for your question.
hi – thanks for the info yesterday – another question for you if you please, i’m picking 6th in a 10 team ppr league – just found out that the guy at 5 is taking AJ – i would assume that i’d snag Gore now at 6, but do you think the signing of Westbrook will cut into Gore’s production enough that i should go a different route?? thanks again for your prompt response.
Calfan,
I feel that Gore will lose any passing 3rd down situations. Gore could lose downs in situations where the 49ers are down big and are looking for the pass to bring the game back. At the 6 spot, I like Steven Jackson. He has a rookie QB, will get a ton of carries, and will be Bradford’s safety outlet. Jackson posted very good numbers in a miserable offense last year.
I’m in a 12 team league, with the option of keeping 2 players from last year, I have the 12th pick and plan on keeping two players. I have chris johnson, gore, and peyton manning. Which two do I keep? Thanks
Aaron, check above… Thanks for the question.
Hello, i have just been offered Jermichael Finley and Mendenhall for moss. Should i? my top players are gore, moss, crabtree, benson, dallas clark, palmer and colston.
Dylan,
You might as well look at this trade as Moss for Mendenhall, because you will never start Finley over Dallas Clark. If you can move Finley for another starter, or get your trader to toss in a different player that has the potential to start on your team for more than a week and I would say that you make out. If this is a PPR league, Moss has more value in this situation. Always view trades as possible starters.
As a second option, see if you can upgrade your weak QB spot for Dallas Clark. Thanks for the question and let me know if you need anything else!
Can Carson Palmer and Alex Smith keep me afloat during this fantasy season?
Hey kurt! i’m in a league where qb passing td’s are the same value as rb rushing td’s,would that change your top 5 theory?
My Current team is
QB: Palmer, Alex Smith
RB: Gore, Benson, Harrison
WR: Randy Moss, Colston, Crabtree, Dallas Clark, Derrick Mason, Devin Hester, John Carlson
K: Mason Crosby
DEF: Dallas, Cincinnati
So should i trade Colston and Benson for Mendenhall and Jonathan Stewart?
Do you plan on starting Colston? Would you start Stewart? Your answers will allow me to finish the thought.
Hi Bill,
Good to hear from you. Do you mean my top 5 QB’s, or my top 5 overall?
Who is there surrounding cast?
This is my team, its a 1/2 ppr league, no keepers, and we can start as my TE as we want. My team: QB:Carson Palmer, Alex Smith. RB: Frank Gore, Cedric Benson, Jerome Harrison. WR: Randy Moss, Marques Colston, Michael Crabtree,Derrick Mason, Devin Hester. TE:Dallas Clark, John Carlson. K: Mason Crosby. DEF: Dallas, Cincinnatti.
Should i trade Randy Moss, Marques Colston, and Cedric Benson for…Maurice Jones-Drew, Jermichael Finley, and Mario Manningham?
How many rb’s can you start?
I can start up to 3 Rbs, and i plan on starting two TEs in Finley and Clark if the deal goes down. So, should i trade Randy Moss, Marques Colston, and Cedric Benson for… Maurice Jones-Drew, Jermichael Finley, and Mario Manningham?
I am fine with the trade off of the strength of what Jones-Drew brings to your team. As far as starting to TE’s…. There are WR’s on your waiver wire that will give you more than Finley will. It’s not often someone will part with a top 3 RB, So you have to jump on it because you are not giving up too much to get him…
Should i be concerned about Maurice Jones-Drew’s “knee injury”?
Hopefully Rashad Jennings is available on waivers…. If so, claim him. Jennings would put up nice numbers in his absence. The Jags offense is filtered through their running back.
